About the Thetford Society

The Thetford Society is established for the public - to promote high standards of planning and architecture, to educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of Thetford and its environs and to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest.

In order to accomplish this, our aims are:

1) To promote a good image of the town by all appropriate means.

2) To act as a pressure group when necessary on a broad non-political basis.

3) To draw together people who have a common concern for quality of resources and services in Thetford.

4) To encourage fresh initiatives which will benefit local residents.

To see details of activities and actions currently being undertaken or supported by the Thetford Society, please see our Campaigns page.

A series of talks and discussions takes place throughout the year, usually on the first Tuesday of the month at the United Reformed Church in Earl’s Street at 7.30 p.m. Details of forthcoming meetings are displayed around the town in The Library, The Thetford ‘What’s On’ display in King Street and the Tourist Information Centre.

Other social events and trips out are organised throughout the year and details of these are notified at the meetings and in the quarterly newsletter.

Thetford Society members receive regular newsletters and a free copy of the magazine and invitations to a range of interesting talks, visits, outings and social activities, plus opportunities to meet like-minded folk.  If you care about Thetford, then the Thetford Society is the medium through which your concern may be directed.  The Society is anxious that any member who has a contribution to make should make it at any meeting.
